1964 Topps Venezuelan #331 A. L. Bombers with Mantle, Maris, and Kaline
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360
Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. Attractive example of #331 “A. L. Bombers” featuring Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Al Kaline, and star players Roger Maris and Norm Cash, from the 1964 Venezuelan Topps set. The Topps Venezuelan issues are among the most fascinating sets of the 1960s. The first 370 cards of Topps’ traditional U.S.-issued 1964 baseball set (#1-370) were reprinted on a darker cardboard stock for sale in the Venezuelan market. The fronts are identical in design to the regular-issue Topps’ cards. Topps Venezuelan cards are almost always found with light paper loss and scrapbook remnants on the reverse, since these cards were intended to be glued into an album produced for that purpose. This example is a rare exception to this rule; the back is clean and intact. The front presents with bold colors, outstanding centering, and light wear to the corners. A horizontal crease is responsible for the assigned grade. Though they receive little attention because they are virtually never found in high grade, Topps Venezuelan cards are among the most unusual and rare baseball-card sets of the decade. This is a very presentable Venezuelan example of the most popular multiplayer card in the 1964 Topps series. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $360
