1964 Topps Venezuelan #200 Sandy Koufax
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $840
Graded EX 5 by PSA. Only one example grades higher! Outstanding high-grade example of Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax, one of the key cards to the 1964 Topps Venezuelan set. The Topps Venezuelan issues are among the most fascinating sets of the 1960s. The first 370 cards of Topps’ traditional U.S.-issued 1964 baseball set (#1-370) were reprinted on a darker cardboard stock for sale in the Venezuelan market. The fronts are identical in design to the regular-issue Topps’ cards; the backs are black instead of the normal light pink. While this card is not in Mint condition, make no mistake: it is in extremely high grade for this unusual issue! Cards from this set are almost always found with light paper loss and scrapbook remnants on the reverse, since they were intended to be glued into an album produced for that very purpose. This card is a very rare exception to this rule: the back is entirely clean and intact. The card is bright, crisp, and clean, with outstanding centering and light wear to the corners. Though they receive little attention because they are virtually never found in high grade, Topps Venezuelan cards are among the most unusual and rare baseball-card sets of the decade. This is a tremendous high-grade Venezuelan example of Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax, and one that would be a highlight in any Topps Venezuelan or type-card collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
