Circa 1880s Perkinson Printing Works Baseball Player Cabinet

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $240

Scarce circa 1880s cabinet photo featuring an unidentified ballplayer in a full-length pose. In this formal studio photograph, the player appears in full uniform, with "SPL" across his chest. The studio setting has been created to resemble an outdoor scene, complete with grass on the floor, a stone pillar on which the player's hand rests, and an ornate backdrop. The photographer's credit "Perkinson, New York & Newark," is along the base of the cabinet. Elaborate advertising for the studio adorns the reverse. The cabinet presents exceptionally well, with superb photo contrast and clarity, but it has been downgraded to VG 40 by SGC due to two small creases, one in each of the bottom two corners. Despite the modest assigned grade, the cabinet retains an Excellent or better overall appearance. This is a beautiful 1880s cabinet photograph! Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $240
