1977 Topps Harry Rasmussen Unissued Proof
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,560
Extremely rare unissued blank-back card featuring St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Harry Rasmussen from the 1977 Topps baseball set. While at first glance this appears to be just a slightly unusual blank back of an otherwise relatively common card, the offered card is of great significance in that it is a proof card that lists Rasmussen's first name as Harry, which is not how he is depicted on the final-issue card #404 that is part of the 1977 Topps series. Rasmussen legally changed his name to Eric in the winter of 1976, after Topps had begun preparations for the 1977 set and already created a card for him using his birth name of Harry in their first run of proof sheets. The offered card is also missing the facsimile signature found on the final issue card. This is one of only a handful of these blank-back proof cards known to exist. This is an extremely unusual Topps rarity that would be very much at home in even the most advanced Topps or error-card collection. Hand-cut (by definition, as this card had to have been cut from a proof sheet), otherwise in Near Mint condition. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,560
