1964-1965 Topps Hockey Uncut Partial Sheets (6) with 21 Hall of Famers Including Howe, Hull, and Plante
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,320
Presented is a fascinating collection of six uncut partial sheets of 1964-1965 Topps Hockey, one of the most popular and classic of all hockey-card sets. The issue is packed with Hall of Famers, rookies, and extremely tough-to-find short prints. The six partial sheets have been arranged to form a 55-card half sheet, highlighted by twenty-one Hall of Famers, including Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe, Jacques Plante, Stan Mikita, Ted Lindsay, and Milt Schmidt, among others. The oversized design of the 1964-1965 Topps Hockey set makes individual cards from this issue particularly susceptible to damage, and this is even more the case with respect to uncut sheets. In fact, we have never seen a complete 110-card uncut sheet of 1964-1965 Topps Hockey, so the offered collection may the closest thing one could ever get to recreating a sheet from this issue. The six partial sheets break down as follows: 1) 12-card panel, arranged in two rows of six cards, with Horton AS, Hall, and Lindsay. Heavy horizontal crease through the top row. 2) 10-card panel, arranged in two rows of five cards, with Pilote, Mikita AS, Gadsby, Howell, and Pilote AS. Heavy horizontal crease through the top row and a repaired tear affecting the two cards in the bottom right. 3) 10-card panel, arranged in two rows of five cards, with Bathgate, Stanley, and Howe. Horizontal creasing through the bottom row, and damage to the top left card. 4) 9-card panel, arranged in three rows of three cards, with Mahovlich and Abel. Small surface creases present. 5) 9-card panel, arranged in three rows of three cards, with Horton, Armstrong, Schmidt, and Hull AS. Small surface creases present, with a small hole affecting the two cards in the bottom left. 6) 5-card panel, with Delvecchio, Bucyk, Keon, and Plante. Small surface creases present. The colors on all six panels are bold and make for a very impressive visual. The reverses of each panel are fully printed, with small flaws, including tiny areas of paper loss or glue residue. This very rarely seen collection of uncut partial sets from one of card collecting's most popular hockey issues creates a tremendous visual and outstanding display value despite various condition defects common to uncut sheets due to their size. Total: 6 partial sheets. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,320
