1931 W. A. A. C. Churchman "Prominent Golfers" (Large) Complete Set (12): #2 PSA Set Registry!

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $13,200

Stunning ultra high-grade complete twelve-card set of 1931 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Prominent Golfers" large-variety cards, highlighted by Hall of Famer Bobby Jones. Each card features a caricature of a professional golfer with a detailed background, and the golfer's name along the bottom. Inscribed as "A Series of 12" on the reverse, this large-card variety of "Prominent Golfers" is extremely rare and compliments its smaller-format 50-card version of the same year. Most advanced collectors would agree that this larger-card variety is about 25 times as rare as the scarce smaller version. This is currently the second All-Time Finest set on the PSA Registry with a very impressive overall GPA of 8.46! The set includes three PSA MINT 9s (including Jones), one NM-MT+ 8.5s, and eight PSA NM-MT 8s. Ten of the twelve cards are the highest-graded examples! The PSA grades are as follows: Three MINT 9: #5 Jones (one of only three graded at this level, with none graded higher), 8 , and 9 Vardon. One NM-MT+ 8.5: #10 J. Wethered (only example graded at this level, with none higher). Eight NM-MT 8: #1, 2, 3 Cotton, 4 Hagen, 6, 7, 11, and 12. Compared to vintage baseball cards, golf cards are beginning to be recognized as offering an outstanding value. This is an extraordinary high-grade complete set of one of the premier golf sets of the era. Total: 12 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $13,200
