1909-1913 M101-2 Sporting News Supplement Joe Jackson
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,440
M101-2 Sporting News supplement featuring the legendary Joe Jackson. This sepia-toned premium set was issued with the Sporting News between the years 1909 and 1913. Each premium was issued on only a single day and is dated in the upper right or left. Their method of issue and the thin paper stock on which they are printed make these unusual and striking premiums particularly susceptible to damage. This is the key to the M101-2 set and one of only a handful of vintage Joe Jackson issues. The Jackson premium was issued on March 23, 1911, and features the future Black Sox legend with the Cleveland Americans. The supplement presents as Excellent from the front, with a flawless image and light wear at the corners. The blank reverse shows evidence of being mounted to a scrapbook page, with seven small pieces of tape residue on the perimeter and a small spot of paper loss in the top center. The premium has a very presentable appearance and represents an exciting relatively affordable opportunity to acquire one of only a few card-related items of Jackson dating from his playing days. Dimensions: approximately 9.75 x 8 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,440
