1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection (139) with 15 Hall of Famers Including Cobb and Mathewson

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $9,000

Outstanding collection of 106 different (plus thirty-three duplicates) T206 White Border tobacco cards, highlighted by fifteen Hall of Famers (eleven different and four duplicates), seven rare Southern Leaguers, and the rare Elberfeld, Washington - portrait variation. All cards in this collection have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal backs except for three Old Mill and two Polar Bear. Condition is 13% Ex (including a few Ex-Mt), 59% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 28% lesser. While the condition of this collection spans several grades, most of these cards are extremely presentable, and overall very consistent in grade. We have submitted twelve cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: Chance/bat off (Pr), Chase/dark cap (Vg-Ex+), Cobb/bat on (GOOD 30), Davis (Gd), Elberfeld/Washington - portrait (Fr), Fritz (Southern Leaguer, possible slight trim, otherwise Vg+), Helm (Southern Leaguer, Vg-Ex), two Huggins/hands at mouth (EX/MT+ 82 and EX/NM 80), Marquard/hands at thighs (VG/EX+ 55), Mathewson/dark cap (Authentic, otherwise Vg-Ex+), two McGraw/glove at hip (EX 60 and VG 40), three McGraw/with cap (EX 60, VG/EX 50, and GOOD+ 35), Orth (Southern Leaguer, Fr), two Reagan (Southern Leaguer, Vg+ and possible slight trim, otherwise Vg-Ex+), Shaughnessy (Southern Leaguer, Gd), Tinker/bat on (VG/EX+ 55), Wheat (EX/NM 80), White (Southern Leaguer, Fr), and Willis/throwing (Pr). This is a very substantial collection of T206s, with several notable highlights, representing approximately 20% of a complete T206 set. T206s perhaps more so than any other vintage issue are extremely popular in all grades. While there is plenty of "break value" in this lot, this is also an ideal collection to serve as the foundation for the assembly of a complete set of T206, the most popular and classic set of the 1910 era. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grades (factoring in the four half-grades at the lower whole-grade level and excluding both the "Authentic" Mathewson, and the 127 ungraded cards!) is $4,345. Total: 139 cards. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000++. SOLD FOR $9,000
