1969 New York Mets Team-Signed Ball with Hodges
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $540
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in black ink by thirty members of the 1969 World Champion New York Mets, including Hodges (Mgr., sweet spot), Ryan, Berra (coach), Seaver, Koonce, Agee, McGraw, Clendenon, Jones, Taylor, McAndrew, Gentry, Martin, Harrelson, Walker (coach), Yoost (coach), Kranepool, Charles, Weis, Koosman, Shamsky, Pignatano (coach), Cardwell. It should be noted that the signatures of Ryan, Agee, Jones, and eight other players are extremely faint (grading "1"), making identification difficult. The remaining signatures range from "4" to "6," averaging "5," with the exception of Hodges ("8/9"). As most collectors are aware, 1969 New York Mets team-signed balls featuring an authentic Gil Hodges signature is the very rare exception rather than the rule, making this an especially highly prized example dating from the most memorable season in franchise history. In fact, most 1969 Mets team balls in the collecting world are actually "reunion balls," dating from and signed decades after the 1969 season, and of course do not include Hodges (who passed away in 1972). This is a rare original dating from 1969. Near Mint condition. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $540
