1951 New York Giants National League Playoffs Press Pass - Thomson's "Shot Heard Round The World"
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $720
Rare press pass issued for the second and third playoff games between the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants held at the Polo Grounds in 1951. Encapsulated by PSA, with the pass certified as "Authentic." This pass is punched for both games 2 and 3, which means it was in use by a reporter on the legendary day of October 3rd, when Bobby Thomson hit one of the most dramatic home runs in baseball history: a three-run game-winning shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Giants an improbable 5-4 win and the pennant. That famous home run, known today as "The Shot Heard Round The World," was further immortalized by Giants radio announcer Russ Hodges' unforgettable call, made famous by the repeated refrain, "The Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant..." This is one of only a few press passes from that historic game that we have ever seen and the first we have ever offered. The pass (3 x 4 inches), which is complete with its original blue string, displays a few moderate-to-heavy creases and is in Good condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $720
