1959 Bazooka Baseball Collection (8) Including Mays and Banks
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,800
Presented is a very attractive collection of eight different cards from the 1959 Bazooka set, representing approximately one-third of a complete set. This was Bazooka's first baseball-card set. The 1959 Bazooka set has always been revered as one of the rarest and most difficult to collect of all Topps-related sets. Issued just one card per box of Topps Bazooka-brand bubble gum, the cards were intended to be hand-cut by youngsters from the bottom of Bazooka boxes. Bazookas will often not receive numerical grades if submitted for professional grading because the cut is within the guidelines. Each of the eight cards is graded below without reference to the neatness of the cut. This lot consists of the following: Banks (HOF, Vg+), Cerv (Ex-Mt), Crandall (Vg-Ex), Kuenn (Vg-Ex), Mays (Ex-Mt), Sievers (Vg), Triandos (Vg), and Wertz (Vg). All cards are exceptionally bright and clean, with hard-to-see wrinkles or creases responsible for downgrading several of the cards despite an Ex-Mt or better appearance. A superb collection of cards from this popular food issue, highlighted by two key Hall of Famers. Total: 8 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,800
