1964-1965 Topps Hockey Complete Set (110)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,400

Spectacular high-grade complete set of 1964-1965 Topps Hockey, one of the most popular and classic of all hockey-card sets. The issue is packed with Hall of Famers, rookies, and extremely tough-to-find short prints. 16% grade Nr/Mt-Mt, 28% Nr/Mt, 41% Ex-Mt, and 15% Ex (with one Vg). Many cards appear far nicer than the technical grades, and the set presents with a remarkable degree of consistency in terms of condition. We have selected six cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Martin RC (Ex-Mt), 6 Sawchuk (Ex), 12 Hall (Ex-Mt), 20 Hull (NM 84), 24 Gilbert (Ex-Mt), 31 Mikita (NM/MT 88), 33 Beliveau (Nr/Mt), 40 Bower (Nr/Mt), 48 H. Richard (Ex-Mt), 54 1st Checklist (NM 84), 55 2nd Checklist (Ex+), 58 Williams SP (NM/MT 88), 59 Pilote SP (Nr/Mt), 68 Plante (MINT 96), 72 Dornhoefer SP (Ex-Mt+), 73 Maki SP (Ex-Mt), 74 Villemure SP (Ex-Mt), 80 Rosseau SP (Ex-Mt+), 82 Lindsay (Ex-Mt+), 85 Mahovlich (Ex-Mt+), 89 Howe (Ex), 91 Nesterenko SP (Nr/Mt+), 92 Paille SP (Ex-Mt), 94 Keon (Ex-Mt+), 98 Hicke SP (Nr/Mt+), 102 Horton (Ex-Mt), 105 Horton AS (Ex-Mt), 106 Mikita AS (NM/MT 88), 107 Hull AS (Ex-Mt), and 110 Hall AS (Ex). The oversized design of the 1964-1965 Topps Hockey set makes this issue particularly susceptible to damage and the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive high-grade set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. A high-quality and very carefully assembled complete set of one of card collecting's most popular hockey issues. The equivalent SMR value for just the six graded cards (not including the 104 ungraded cards!) is $3,445. Total: 110 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $8,400
