1910 E-UNC Candy Honus "Hans" Wagner

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960

Superb example of Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Honus Wagner from a rare and unusual 1910-era candy-card set. Designated in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards and by professional grading companies as "1910 E-UNC Candy," very little is known about the origin of these cards. Examples with a diamond design surrounding the card are known to exist, suggesting that these cards were likely part of a larger box and intended to be cut out by hand. The image of Wagner used on this card is the exact same one as featured on his E93 Standard Caramel and E98 caramel cards. The offered example is neatly cut on all four sides (encapsulated as Authentic by SGC as a result) and boasts a brilliant red design with "Hans Wagner, Pittsburgh Natl." printed underneath the image of Wagner throwing. The back is blank. The card presents as Excellent but would technically grade Very Good due to a faint vertical crease in Wagner's cap. While the exact origin of this card is unknown, it remains a desirable and extremely attractive card issued during the heart of Wagner's legendary career. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $960
