1888 N36 Allen & Ginter "American Indians" PSA- and SGC-Graded Collection (16)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,600

Collection of sixteen different N36 Allen & Ginter large-format American Indians. By any measure, these are among the rarest and most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. It is not surprising that these cards have begun to attract serious attention, long overdue, by extremely advanced collectors. All sixteen cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC (except for four PSA). SGC Grading Composite: Two EX 60: Noon Day (PSA EX 5) and White Swan. One VG/EX+ 55: Man and Chief. Four VG/EX 50: John Yellow Feather, Red Bird, Red Cloud, and Striker. Six VG 40: Big Bear, Crow's Breast, Iron Bull, Spotted Tail (PSA VG 3), War Captain, and White Shield. One GOOD 30: Red Thunder. One FAIR 20: King of the Crows (PSA FR 1.5). One POOR 10: Red Shirt (PSA PR 1). Issued in 1888, N36s are one of the rarest of all the Allen & Ginter sets. They feature the same subjects and designs as the smaller N2 Allen & Ginters, but in a larger format and with extra background artwork added to each card's design. Measuring approximately 2.75 x 3.25 inches, the large-format N36 Allen & Ginters are widely recognized as one of the most attractive and highly prized card sets ever issued. The set features American Indians of the day. This is an extremely crisp, clean, and exceptionally attractive collection of these rare cards. Total: 16 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,600
