Huge 1954 Topps Shoebox Collection of 586 cards!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,600

Presented is an extremely substantial original-owner collection of 1954 Topps cards consisting 586 assorted cards, including a partial set of 219 different (out of 250). This is a huge shoebox collection that has been saved in a closet and has remained untouched for decades! Included within this collection are dozens of Hall of Famers and stars. The 1954 Topps set has always been one of the most popular sets of the 1950s. Issued in the heart of the decade, the 1954 Topps set is notable for the rookie cards of Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Tom Lasorda, and Al Kaline (all but Aaron are included in this offering), among many other Hall of Famers and stars, all in brilliant and stunning color. This is a very consistent and presentable collection, with 90% ranging in grade from Vg to Ex and 10% grading lesser. We have selected nine cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: Five #1 Williams (HOF, one EX+ 70, one EX 60, one VG/EX+ 55, Vg, and Gd), five 3 Irvin (HOF, Ex, Vg-Ex, and three Vg+), nine 7 Kluszewski (four Vg-Ex, four Vg, and Fr), two 10 J. Robinson (HOF, both Vg), six 13 B. Martin (all Vg), twelve 17 Rizzuto (HOF, nine Vg and three Fr/Gd), eight 20 Spahn (HOF, two Ex, three Vg-Ex, two Vg, and Fr), four 30 Mathews (HOF, Ex, Vg-Ex, Vg, and Fr), two 32 Snider (HOF, Vg and Gd), five 36 Wilhelm (HOF, two Vg-Ex and three Vg), four 37 Ford (HOF, three Vg and Fr), ten Ashburn (HOF, two Ex, one Vg-Ex, four Vg, and three Gd), five 50 Berra (HOF, Vg-Ex, two Vg, and two Gd), 70 Doby (HOF, Vg), 90 Mays (HOF, Gd), 94 Banks RC (HOF, Fr), 132 Lasorda RC (HOF, Fr), 183 Combs (HOF, Vg+), three 187 Manush (HOF, all Vg-Ex), four 201 Kaline RC (HOF, two EX 60, one VG/EX+ 55, and one VG+ 45), 239 Skowron RC (Vg), and two 250 Williams (HOF, VG/EX+ 55 and VG/EX 50). This is an outstanding collection, with several notable highlights, that would provide a tremendous foundation for the assembly of a midgrade complete set, with hundreds of extra cards left over for flipping on the playground (where these cards last saw the light of day in 1954!). The equivalent SMR value for just four of the graded cards (excluding the five cards graded less than EX and the 577 ungraded cards!) is $1,130. Total: 586 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $6,600
