1972 Topps Fifth Series Uncut Sheet with #595 Nolan Ryan

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,320

Original 1972 Topps uncut final production sheet consisting of 132 cards with fully printed reverses. All cards on this sheets are from the fifth series (#526-656). Arranged in twelve rows of eleven cards each, the sheet features sixty-six different double-printed cards, highlighted by Hall of Famers Juan Marichal IA, Brooks Robinson, Nolan Ryan, and Ron Santo IA plus Pete Rose IA, each of which appears twice. Grading of sheets has always posed a problem as we naturally tend to grade a sheet as if it were a "big card" when really a grade does not capture the condition or visual appeal of a sheet (all the more so as sheets tend to be large). That is certainly the case here. Technically, the sheet is in Good condition due to small creases affecting the interior cards, a few edge tears, and light staining in some spots as well as a six-inch tear on the right edge. If framed and hung on a wall, many of these flaws would be mitigated and it would project an outstanding overall Excellent appearance! The sheet measures approximately 28-3/8 x 43 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,320
