Pair of 1948-1949 Leaf Gum #1 Joe DiMaggio Cards Including Yellow Background

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,280

Offered is a pair of extremely attractive Joe DiMaggio cards from the 1948-1949 Leaf Gum set, both graded and encapsulated by SGC (VG/EX 50 and VG 40). Aside from being one of DiMaggio's most popular cards, the 1948-1949 Leaf card is also DiMaggio's only postwar bubble-gum card issued during his playing days (he did not allow cards of himself to be printed by Topps or Bowman), giving this card an even greater significance. The offered examples are both well centered, with flawless registration, light wear on the corners, and brilliant colors. Of special note one example displays a yellow background, as opposed to the more commonly seen dark green background. The colors on 1948-1949 Leafs often vary from card to card, in some cases dramatically, due to normal production variances; this is part of the charm of the set. This is a very attractive pair of one of DiMaggio's most important cards and one of the key cards from the 1948-1949 Leaf set. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,280
