2014 San Francisco Giants World Series Ring - Issued to a Scout - Only Example Offered at Public Auction!
Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $9,600
San Francisco Giants 2014 World Series ring presented to scout Charles Hensley Jr., complete with its original presentation box and letter of appraisal from Tiffany & Co., the jewelry firm that produced the ring. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the only 2014 San Francisco World Series ring ever offered at public auction. San Francisco's 2014 World Series victory marked the club's third World Championship in five years, and eighth in franchise history. Both of those accomplishments are reflected by the number and placement of the most prominent diamonds set within the bezel. The yellow-gold ring features fifty-five tiny diamonds set with the team's "SF" logo, which in turn is outlined in black enamel and sits upon a gold plate. The plate is surrounded by seventy-one smaller diamonds. "World" and "Champions" is lettered along the left and right bezel, respectively. Three large diamonds are set along the top of the bezel and five slightly smaller diamonds are set along its base, with the number of diamonds representing, respectively, the club's three most recent World Championships and its five earlier titles (1905, 1921, 1922, 1933, and 1954). Sixty-six tiny diamonds are set along the perimeter of the bezel. One shank features the recipient's name, "Hensley Jr.," and a depiction of the Golden Gate Bridge. The other shank displays the year, "2014," and a depiction of three World Series trophies. Engraved along the interior band are "Tiffany & Co. AG925" and the result of each postseason series: SF 1 - 0 PIT/SF 3 - 1 WAS/SF 4 - 1 STL/SF 4 - 3 KC."
Charles Hensley Jr. only played one season of major league baseball, appearing in just eleven games with the San Francisco Giants in 1986. Afterwards he scouted for a number of major league clubs before joining the Giants staff in 2010. This ring was issued to him for his services as a scout and represents the first and only example we have ever seen offered publicly. It is accompanied by a one-page letter of appraisal from Tiffany & Co, addressed to Hensley and dated April 6, 2015, which places the "estimated retail replacement value" at $11,500. The ring remains in Near Mint to Mint condition. Together with its original wooden presentation box (5 x 5 x 2.5 inches), which features an illustration of the Golden Gate Bridge, the team's "SF" logo and year ("2014"), and the date "October 29, 2014" (the date of the final game of the World Series) on the lid. Size: approximately 11. Weight: approximately 65 grams. Reserve $5,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $9,600
