1920 New York Yankees (vs. Detroit) Program - Ruth's 7th Home Run as a Yankee!
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $480
New York Yankees program issued for a game against the Detroit Tigers at the Polo Grounds in 1920, which was Babe Ruth's first season in pinstripes. The preprinted lineups include Babe Ruth, Wally Pipp, and Roger Peckinpaugh for New York, and Ty Cobb, Harry Heilmann, and Bobby Veach for Detroit. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 4-3 Yankees win. Research indicates that this game took place on May 25th and, as recorded here, it featured Ruth's seventh home run of the season. Ruth's two-run home run in the first inning staked the Yankees to a 2-1 lead and came at the expense of his former teammate, Dutch Leonard. Ruth went on to hit a then-record 54 home runs that season, besting his previous mark of 29 the year before. New York Yankees programs from Ruth's inaugural season with the club are scarce, especially those recording one of his home runs, making this an extremely desirable piece for any Babe Ruth or New York Yankees collector. The eight-page program (6.5 x 10 inches) displays a small tear and minor adhesive residue on the back cover; otherwise in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $480
