1957 Cleveland Indians Team-Signed Ball with Roger Maris (Rookie Season)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,920
When Roger Maris signed this team ball his future looked bright but no one could have foreseen the dramatic impact he would have on the game in just a few short years. This 1957 Cleveland Indians team-signed ball dates from Roger Maris’ rookie season and features the blue-ink signatures of thirty team members, including Maris. The signatures featured on this official American League (Harridge) ball are those of Maris (“7”), Wynn, Lemon, Woodling, Carrasquel, Hegan, Avila, Score, Busby, Farrell (sweet spot, Mgr.), Garcia (sweet spot), Raines, Colavito, Daley, Kuhn, Kress (coach), Narleski, Strickland, Nixon (twice), Stanky (coach), Pitula, Altobelli, Mossi, Naragon, Smith, McLish, Wertz, Robinson, and Tomanek. Signatures range from "6" to "9," averaging "7/8." Maris appeared in 116 games with the Indians in 1957, batting .235 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI. Those numbers hardly hinted at his future accomplishments, which would include two consecutive MVP Awards with the Yankees and his now legendary record-setting home run performance of 1961. Excellent to Mint condition. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,920
