1895 N566 Newsboy Tobacco Cabinet W. B. "Shorty" Fuller
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,080
Graded VG/EX+ 55 by SGC. High-grade Newsboy cabinet card, number 179, of New York Giants infielder William "Shorty" Fuller. Newsboy cabinet cards were issued by the National Tobacco Works of New York City to promote their Newsboy Tobacco brand. Newsboys are extremely rare and one of the very few baseball-card sets issued during the 1890s. The offered cabinet features a beautiful portrait photo with strong contrast. A few small areas of light foxing are present at the top of the photo and along the borders. The mount is free of any significant edge wear, and the corners are strong (slight wear to the upper right). The reverse is very clean with just a few insignificant surface marks (mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). This is an outstanding and high-grade example from the desirable Newsboy cabinet-card series. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,080
