1912 T207 Brown Background Louis Lowdermilk
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,200
Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Extremely pleasing example of T207 Louis Lowdermilk, one of the legendary rarities of tobacco cards. Lowdermilk has long been recognized as a key rarity of the T207 Brown Background tobacco card series. In the 1930s, in the original American Card Catalog by Jefferson Burdick, Lowdermilk was listed as rarer and more valuable than any other card in the T207 set. (At that time, its value was listed at $1. The T206 Wagner was listed at $50.) Today collectors recognize many cards as being of various degrees of rarity in the classic T207 set, but Lowdermilk will always be the set's most famous key rarity. The offered example features bold colors, a crisp image, and even wear to the four corners (slightly more in the bottom right). Centered to the right, with a very faint horizontal crease visible through the center. "Anonymous" reverse (no advertisement), with moderate toning and small areas of surface wear present. A very desirable midgrade example of this legendary rarity! Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,200
