1954-1955 Topps Hockey Complete Set (60)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,560

Complete set of the landmark 1954-1955 Topps Hockey series, the first hockey set issued by Topps. This important set includes only sixty cards, and features players from the four American teams: Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston. This is a very attractive midgrade complete set of 1954-1955 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all hockey-card sets. We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Gamble (Ex), 3 Howell (Ex), 5 Kelly (Gd+), 8 Howe (VG+ 45), 10 Worsley (Vg), 11 Bathgate (Ex-Mt), 18 Mohns RC (SGC Authentic, color added to the two lower corners), 20 Gadsby (Ex), 39 Delvecchio (Vg-Ex), 41 Stanley (Gd+), 49 Quackenbush (Vg), 51 Lindsay (Vg+), 58 Sawchuk (EX/MT+ 82), and 60 Schmidt (Fr). The balance of the cards grade as follows: 73% range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), 27% Vg (with a few slightly lesser). The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1954-1955 Topps Hockey set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive midgrade set, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. Total: 60 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,560
