1910-1912 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 1) Rube Marquard Pitching

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,440

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Extremely rare example of New York Giants Hall of Famer Rube Marquard (pitching) from the 1910-1912 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 1) set. T215 Red Cross is one of tobacco-card collecting's most overlooked issues. Very similar in design to and borrowing images from the T206 set, T215 Red Cross cards are believed to have been issued exclusively in the Louisiana area. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco issues. This is an outstanding card in all respects, and it is simply far superior to what is normally found for Red Cross Tobacco. Bright and clean, with vibrant colors and even wear at the corners (slightly more to the upper left). The flawless image is perfectly centered. The reverse is also centered slightly to the left (when held horizontally as intended), and is entirely clean with bold crisp print, an ideal quality for a sample of this scarce issue. T215s tend to survive in very modest condition, which makes this sample all the more noteworthy. This is an outstanding Hall of Fame sample from one of tobacco-card collecting's rarest sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,440
