1960s/1970s Rock N' Roll Collection (Posters and Handbills) with Woodstock Flag

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,400

Large collection of concert posters, handbills, and a few miscellaneous pieces dating from the late 1960s/early 1970s, the vast majority of which are for events held at the Fillmore Auditorium or Fillmore West, located in San Francisco, California. These items also have a unique provenance: all have been directly consigned by the gentleman who was the agent in charge of selling promotional goods for the bands at the respective concerts! They have remained in his personal collection since the time of the events. The highlight of the group is an original blue-and-white "access flag" from the historic 1969 Woodstock Festival, which features the concert logo of a bird perched on the end of guitar handle. This flag was provided to vendors, musicians, technicians, etc., and was meant to be flown from their vehicles and/or booths when accessing the grounds during the event. The nylon flag (15.5 x 15.5 inches), which has two white tie strings at both the top left and bottom left corners, displays normal handing wear commensurate with its age and former use. In Excellent condition overall. Additional items include the following: 1) Two identical posters (27.75 x 20.75 inches) issued for a new year's eve concert held at the Fillmore West in 1969 that included performances by Jefferson Airplane and Santana (Vg, with handling wear and light staining in the border areas). 2) 1969 new year's eve poster (14 x 21.25 inches) for a concert at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, featuring the Youngbloods and Taj Mahal. (Vg-Ex, with corner and edge creases). 3) Poster for an April 23-26 concert series held at the Fillmore West and Winterland theaters in San Francisco featuring Joe Cocker ("Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour) and Van Morrison. (Gd-Vg, with a few moderate edge tears and creases). 4) Thirteen large-format promotional postcards (twelve different, one duplicate). All are for concerts promoted by Bill Graham in San Francisco. Included among the bands are Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Sly and Family Stone, Ike and Tina Turner, The Grateful Dead, and Jefferson Airplane. Sizes range from 4.5 x 7 to 4.75 x 8 inches. Two have writing on the reverse but none have been mailed. (Ex overall). 5) Seven handbills, five of which display concert calendars on the reverse. Approximately 4.75 x 7 inches. (Ex overall). 6) Eric Clapton plastic 1975 "Summer Tour" vendor's badge (3.25 x 2.75; Vg-Ex). Total: 26 items. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,400
