Circa 1910 to 1955 Nonsport "Old West" Theme Complete Set Collection (5 Sets, 234 Cards)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $600
Selection of five complete nonsport-card sets, issued between 1910 and 1955, all capturing the spirit of the "Old West." Interest in the true history of the American West and Native American Indians, as well as the popularity of Westerns in movies and television in more recent times, have inspired many different interesting card sets. Each of these sets is a classic of the genre. 1) 1910 T53 Hassan "Cowboy Series" (48/49 cards): Missing #49 “Touching Leather.” Overall condition is Vg, with nine lower (five of which are due to a "Jeff Burdick" stamp on the reverse). Missing "An Exciting Game" rarity, which is not generally considered part of the complete set. 2) 1910 T73 Hassan "Indian Life in the '60's" (50 cards): Overall condition is Vg to Vg-Ex, with nine lower (mostly due to back marks or stamps). 3-4) Two 1933 R172 Gum, Inc. "Wild West Series" Complete Sets (2 sets, 96 cards): Includes one Type 2 back variation of #41 "Fighting A Buffalo." Overall condition of one set is Vg-Ex to Ex, with eight lower. Overall condition of the second set is Vg-Ex, with two higher and eleven lower. Both are missing the noted "Cowboy Outfit" rarity, which is not generally considered part of the complete set. 5) 1952-1955 T129 "American Indian Chiefs" Complete Set (40 cards): Presents as Vg or better overall, but technically grades more modestly due to approximately quarter-inch tears along the bottom border of each card. This is a very attractive collection of four complete sets and one complete set minus one, each chronicling the fascinating Wild West and Native Americans, consigned by a longtime advanced collector. Total: 234 cards representing five sets. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $600
