Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,700

Presented is a collection of sixty-three cards from several different 1920s strip-card issues, highlighted by thirty-five Hall of Famers, many in duplicate, including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, and Walter Johnson. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1920-1921 W516-2-1 (1 card): #4 Hornsby. 2) 1920-1921 W516-2-2 (15 cards): including #2 Alexander, three 4 Hornsby, 5 Cobb, two 6 Speaker, 7 Schalk, and two 10 Ruth. 3) 1921 W551 (6 cards): including Bancroft, Cobb, Johnson, Sisler, and Speaker. 4) 1923 W515 (10 cards): including #36 Huggins, two 45 McGraw, 47 Ruth, 49 Alexander, 55 Hornsby, 56 Wheat, and 58 E. Collins. 5) 1927 W560 (31 cards): including Bottomley, Cuyler, Gehrig, Haines, Hornsby, Hoyt, W. Johnson, Lindstrom, Ruth, Simmons, and L. Waner. The W560 cards are the nicest of the lot, with half ranging in grade from Vg to Ex (without respect to the cuts). The balance of the cards from the W560 set, as well as the remainder of the lot, grade very modestly, with many of the cards cut within their suggested borders. This lot, which boasts a superb selection of Hall of Famers, highlighted by four cards of Babe Ruth, is ideal for the collector who wants real, original vintage cards which capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune. Total: 63 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,700
