Commissioners, League Presidents, and Team Executives Signed Letter Collection (10)

Collection of nine letters and one printout, each signed, respectively, by a different baseball executive, nine of whom are members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The collection is comprised of the following:

1) Kenesaw Landis. One-page typed letter, dated May 2, 1906, on United States District Court letterhead, signed in black fountain pen (grading "8") by "K. M. Landis." 5 x 8 inches (fold-over sheet). Ex-Mt, with normal mailing folds.

2) John Heydler. One-page typed letter, dated May 16, 1929, on official National League letterhead, signed in black fountain pen ("9," with very minor brushing) by "John A. Heydler." 8.5 x 11 inches. Vg-Ex, with normal mailing folds.

3) Ed Barrow. One-page typed letter, dated May 3, 1933, on American Base Ball Club of New York letterhead, signed in black fountain pen ("10") by "E. G. Barrow." Written to Joe Devine, the Yankees scout who later signed Joe DiMaggio. 8.5 x 11 inches. Vg-Ex, with normal mailing folds.

4) George Weiss. One-page typed letter, dated November 6, 1934, on Newark International Base Ball Club, Inc., letterhead, signed in black fountain pen ("10") by "George M. Weiss." Written to Joe Devine, the Yankees scout who later signed Joe DiMaggio. 8.5 x 11 inches. Vg-Ex, with normal mailing folds and pencil notations on the reverse.

5) Leland MacPhail Sr. One-page typed letter, dated May 29, 1941, on Brooklyn National League Baseball Club letterhead, signed in black fountain pen ("9") by "L. S. MacPhail." Written to Tigers owner Walter Briggs. 8.5 x 11 inches (on onionskin). Vg-Ex, with normal mailing folds. Together with a four-page typed copy of a letter (on onionskin) that MacPhail sent to Kenesaw Landis concerning night baseball games. Signed in black fountain pen ("9/10") by "L. S. MacPhail." 8.5 x 11 inches. Ex, with normal mailing folds.

6) Bowie Kuhn. Two-page handwritten letter (on both sides of a single lined sheet), dated May 7, 1945. Signed in black fountain pen ("9") by "Boots." Written to his mother and father while a student at Franklin & Marshall College (U. S. Navy, V-12 Unit). 8.5 x 11 inches. Vg-Ex, with normal mailing folds. Although Kuhn has signed the letter with is nickname, he has printed his full name ("Bowie K. Kuhn") in black ink as part of the return address on the accompanying original mailing envelope (7.5 x 4 inches; Ex).

7) Will Harridge. One-page typed letter, dated May 28, 1945, on official American League letterhead, signed in black fountain pen ("9/10") by "Will Harridge." 8.5 x 11 inches. Ex, with normal mailing folds and two staples.

8) Joe Cronin. One-page typed letter, dated March 24, 1971, on official American League letterhead, signed in blue ink ("9") by "Joe Cronin." Written to A's owner Charles Finley. 7.25 x 10.5 inches. Nr-Mt, with normal mailing folds.

9) Warren Giles. One-page handwritten letter, dated February 15, 1978, on official National League letterhead, signed in blue ink ("9/10") by "Warren C. Giles." 7.25 x 10.5 inches. Ex-Mt, with normal mailing folds.

10) Pat Gillick. One-page typed letter, undated, inscribed in blue ink ("10"), "Pat Gillick HOF 2011." This is not actually a letter, but an excerpt of Gillick's biography on Wikipedia that some fan printed out and then had Gillick sign. 8.5 x 11 inches. Vg, with normal mailing folds.
