Team-Owner Signed Letters and Documents Collection (5): Griffith, Veeck, O'Malley, Yawkey, and Stoneham

Collection of five documents, each signed by a former major league team owner, four of whom are in the Hall of Fame. Unless otherwise noted, all of the documents measure 8.5 x 11 inches, display normal mailing folds, and are in Excellent to Mint condition. 1) One-page legal release form, dated 2/26/42, signed in black fountain pen (grading "9") by "Clark Griffith," owner of the Washington Senators. The document authorizes Samuel Goldwyn, Inc., the right to use the name of the Senators baseball team in the film The Pride of the Yankees. With two notebook holes and a small paperclip stain in the upper left corner. Ex. Accompanied by a two-page copy of a typed letter from Christy Walsh that served as the cover letter to the release. 2) One-page typed letter, dated 1/7/47, signed in blue fountain pen (grading "10") by "Horace C. Stoneham," owner of the New York Giants. Written to Giants outfielder Willard Marshall, on team letterhead, this was the cover letter to Marshall's 1947 contract. 3) One-page "Uniform Agreement for the Assignment of a Player's Contract to or by a Major League Club," dated 4/14/47, signed in blue fountain pen ("9") by "Thomas A. Yawkey" owner of the Boston Red Sox. The document, typed on onionskin, allows the Red Sox to repurchase the contract of Charles Koney from the Louisville Baseball Company. 4) One-page typed letter, dated 6/6/53, signed in blue fountain pen ("9/10") by 'Bill Veeck," owner of the St. Louis Browns. In his letter, on Browns team letterhead, Veeck promises a radio station autographed balls for a charity event. 5) One-page typed letter, dated 2/25/58, signed in blue fountain pen ("8/9") by "Walter F. O'Malley," owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his letter, on LA Dodgers letterhead, O'Malley responds briefly to an unspecified request. The letter displays a number of light creases, light toning, and paper residue on the reverse. There is also a 4 x 3-inch piece of paper affixed to the base of the letter regarding future expansion plans for major league baseball (not clear if it originated from O'Malley or was added later).
