American Astronauts Signed Photo Collection (29) Including Three of the Twelve "Moon Walkers"
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,080
Collection of twenty-nine photos, each individually signed by a different former United States astronaut, three of whom walked on the moon. All of the photos are official NASA publicity photos and each has been signed by the respective astronaut pictured. These photos were all obtained by our consignor (as a young boy) through the mail during the early –to-mid 1970s. A fan of the space program, he took the time to write each of the astronauts personally and was continually rewarded with a signed photo. As a result, seventeen of the photos offered here are personalized to our consignor. Included with the photos are typed letters signed, respectively, by William Schnieder and Harrison Schmitt. All of the photos have been signed on the front (in a variety of inks), with the signatures grading “9” or “10.” Each of the photos is in color and measures 8 x 10 inches with the exception of those of John Glenn (B&W; 4 x 6.5 inches) and William Schneider (B&W; 5 x 7 inches). Many of the photos display vintage handwritten notations by our consignor on the reverse, most of which record the date it was received in the mail. Condition ranges from Very Good to Near Mint, averaging Ex-Mt. The signers are listed here according to their respective space missions. Mercury 1: John Glenn and William Schneider. Apollo 7: Don Slayton and Walter Cunningham. Apollo 9: James McDivitt, Dave Scott (also on Apollo 15; tape residue on top left border), and Russell Schweickart. Apollo 11: Buzz Aldrin and Mike Collins. Apollo 17: Harrison Schmitt. Sky Lab or the Space Station: Joe Engle, Vance Brand, Jack Lousma, Ed Gibson, Gerald Carr, Don Lind, Bruce McCandless, Joe Allen, Robert Parker, William Lenoir, Karl Henize, William Thornton, Karol Bobko, Gordon Fullerton, Henry Hartsfield, Bob Crippen, Donald Peterson, Rick Truly, and Bob Obermyer. Total: 31 items (29 photos and two letters). Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,080
