1953 Hall of Fame Notification Letter to Al Simmons on the Occasion of His Induction

Al Simmons batted over .300 in fifteen of his twenty seasons, won two batting titles, and finished his career with 307 home runs, 1,827 RBI (which was sixth all-time at the time of his retirement in 1944; currently nineteenth), and a .334 lifetime average. Despite those accomplishments, it wasn't until 1953 that Simmons was finally elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Offered here is the letter to Simmons, from Sid Keener, director of the Hall of Fame, officially notifying him of his induction to the Hall. The two-page typed letter, dated January 31, 1953, and written on National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc., letterhead, reads in part:
