1917-1921 Ty Cobb Full-Size Decal Bat - Ty Cobb Museum Provenance!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,900

H&B Louisville Slugger 40 T.C. Ty Cobb store-model decal bat dating from the 1917-1921 manufacturing period. The barrel features a colorful illustration of Cobb in a batting pose, below which is his endorsement of Louisville Slugger bats. The full-size 33-inch bat features bold, well-defined manufacturer's stampings throughout. The decal label is approximately 95% complete and intact, with no restoration whatsoever, which these days has become somewhat of a rarity for portrait decal bats. The actual bat itself is a beautiful blond wood which is not only striking, but is unusual and especially ideal for a portrait decal bat. These decal bats are so often made of a darker wood which dulls the brightness of the decal, especially on full-size models. This lighter wood allows the decal to display brightly, significantly contributing to its visual appeal and exceptionally strong display value. We grade the decal an “8” on a scale of “1 to 10." This bat has a very special provenance in that for the past sixteen years it has been on loan to the Ty Cobb Museum, located in Royston, Georgia, and was only just recently returned to our consignor. The museum opened in 1998 and this bat was one of the original display items. The bat displays a wrap of black tape on the handle (8 inches in length) and light-to-moderate use, including a number of ball marks on the barrel. In Excellent condition overall and one of the finest examples we have ever seen with regard to the decal. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,900
