1914 Royal Tailors Salesman’s Sample Catalog with Baseball Page

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $240

Enormous leather-bound salesman's-sample book issued by The Royal Tailors in the "Spring & Summer Season 1914." Nearly every other page of this album features an illustrated scene picturing a refined gentleman nattily attired in a Royal Tailors suit, adjacent to which is a page of various swatches. The page that is most important to baseball collectors advertises the company's "Royal Baseball Uniform Services." A photo of an unidentified Philadelphia A's player at bat is featured at the top of the page, to the left of which are six different uniform swatches for teams to choose from. The text along the base of the page reads "Ask Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, Ed Walsh, Frank Chance, Eddie Plank, and John Evers - About Royal Tailor Service. THEY KNOW. It is the nation's authentic and standard service for both professionals and amateurs." The book is missing its first eight pages, and currently holds fifty-six numbered pages (9-64). The album (20 x 22 inches) displays moderate exterior wear, while the pages all show minor water staining along the base and light foxing. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $240
