Pair of Circa 1905 Cap Anson Photos
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $420
Two vintage photos of Cap Anson as he appeared circa 1880s as a member of the Chicago White Stockings. Both are identical studio images and capture Anson in full uniform as he leans on a bat. This is a famous photo of Anson and one that has been used countless times over the years in both books and periodicals. While both of these photos are obviously very old, we believe they most likely date to the very early 1900s as opposed to dating from Anson's actual playing career. It is highly likely that both of these original photographs came directly from the Anson family, when they sold a number of letters, photos, and other personal items in the 1990s (and were probably created specifically for use in promotional materials; in fact, this is the same pose used by Anson for his 1905 City Clerk campaign posters, for example). The larger of the two photos measures 7 x 11 inches and has been affixed to cardboard mount, making it similar in style to an imperial cabinet. The photo displays numerous creases and moderate surface wear. In Good to Very Good condition. The mount (10 x 14 inches) displays a number of moderate tears and editorial notations on the reverse. In Good condition. The other photo (4.75 x 7 inches) displays a number of moderate creases, small edge tears, and minor surface wear. In Good to Very Good condition. Total: 2 photos.
