1900 "Home Base Ball Game" Manufactured by McLoughlin Bros.
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $840
This beautiful turn-of-the-century baseball board game is distinguished by its exquisite cover design. Manufactured by McLoughlin Bros., the preeminent baseball game manufacturer of the era, the bold graphics feature a large illustration of a batter and catcher set against a pastoral background. The cover illustration seen here is one of two used by the company for the game at the time, and is generally considered the more attractive design (the other is similar but features a plain yellow background with silhouettes of ballplayers displayed around the catcher and batter). The interior game board, made to resemble a diamond, is actually the bottom of the box and is framed on all sides by sturdy wood construction. As is usually the case with McLoughlin Bros., this is a very substantial and well-made game! The playing directions are printed on the underside of the lid. No game pieces are included. This board game is spectacular for display and would be a significant addition to many different types of collections. The box displays wear commensurate with its age and former use, including a few minor creases and abrasions to the cover, that do not detract in the least from its overall spectacular Excellent appearance. Dimensions: 14.5 x 15 inches x 1 inch.
