1892 New York Giants (vs. Chicago) Yearbook-Style Baseball Program

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $480

This extremely rare and substantial 24-page yearbook-style program from the 1892 season (year printed on cover) commemorates a game between the New York Giants and the Chicago White Stockings. Programs from the 1890s are generally much rarer than those from the 1880s. This is an extraordinary example both in terms of rarity and design. Featured within the pages are portrait photographs and brief biographies of the following nine New York Giants team members: Amos Rusie, Buck Ewing, James O'Rourke, Mike Tiernan, W. B. Fuller, John Boyle, D. F. Lyons, Charles King, and manager P. T. Powers. The preprinted lineups include Ewing, O'Rourke, Rusie, Teirnan, Doyle, and Burke for New York, and Anson, Ryan, Dahlen, and Dungan for Chicago. Although the program is not scored inning by inning, the totals for each player have been recorded, as have the totals for each team, which indicate a 7-2 victory for Chicago. The date, "Sept 5, 1892," is written in pencil on each scorecard page. Research confirms that Chicago defeated New York 7-2 in the second game of a doubleheader on that date. The program (5.75 x 9 inches) displays heavy wear. Both covers were at one point detached and have since been reaffixed, respectively, to the facing front and back pages by means of an adhesive. Both covers also display a few tears, with one having been repaired by clear tape on the front. An area of paper loss is evident on the back cover. The pages also display a number of tears and creases. Technically in modest condition but still very substantial, desirable, and extremely rare! Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $480
