1889 N43 Allen & Ginter Complete SGC-Graded Set of Baseball Players (6)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,600

Offered is a very attractive complete set of all six baseball players from the extremely rare and desirable 1889 N43 Allen & Ginter series, including Hall of Famer Buck Ewing. All six cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). This is only the second complete N43 set we have ever offered! SGC Grading Composite: One GOOD+ 35: Buck Ewing (HOF, Ewing is the key card from the set. Bright and overall clean, with vibrant colors, perfect registration, and even wear to the corners. A faint diagonal crease extends from the right border to the bottom border. The back displays natural toning. A very attractive example of this key pre-1900 rarity.). Two FAIR 20: Jas. H. Fogarty and Chas. H. Getzin. Three POOR 10: Geo. F. Miller, John Morrell, and James Ryan. N43s feature the same subjects and designs as the smaller N29 second series Allen & Ginters, but in a larger format and with extra artwork complementing the larger design. Measuring approximately 3 x 3.25 inches, the large-format N43 Allen & Ginters are widely recognized as one of the most attractive sets ever issued. This is a beautiful complete set of this extremely popular nineteenth-century issue, with an overall appearance far superior to the technically accurate assigned grades. This is an outstanding complete set of one of the great classic issues of nineteenth-century baseball cards, and one that would be a significant highlight to any nineteenth-century baseball-card collection. Total: 6 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
