One-page typed letter, dated February 21, 1944, signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Tris Speaker. In his letter, written on his personal letterhead, Speaker praises Ward Morehouse, drama critic at the New York Sun, for the fine article Morehouse wrote about Speaker that appeared in The Sporting News. In part: Dear Ward:- I am a little late in telling you how much I enjoyed the article in the Sporting News. You certainly did a fine job and I have had many comments from my friends expressing their appreciation of the way the story was written." It is boldly signed "Tris Speaker" in green ink (grading "10"). After he received this letter, Ward sent it on to a friend, as indicated by Ward's typewritten and signed (first name only) note that appears along the top reading "Taylor: Thanks so much for your generosity about sending the paper to Grant Mitchell of Alexandria Bay. . . I thought you'd like to see this. Ward [signed]." The letter (7.25 x 10.5 inches) displays two vertical and five horizontal folds, as well as a few light creases and a paperclip impression.
