Circa 1930 Ty Cobb Single-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,920
Official American League ball signed by Ty Cobb on a side panel. Cobb's signature has been scripted in black fountain pen and grades "3." Although much of the manufacturer's stampings are obscured or faded beyond legibility, what does remain allows us to date the ball to the general 1927 to 1933 manufacturing period (red-and-blue stitched ball with "Warranted The Cushioned Cork Center 9 IN. 5 OZ." stamped on the bottom panel). Cobb retired after the 1928 season, so this ball was either signed by Cobb during his final two seasons in the Majors or just shortly afterwards. The ball is moderately toned, with a number of small abrasions. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,920
