1937 San Diego Padres (PCL) Team-Signed Ball with Ted Williams!
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420
Draper-Maynard "Official League Ball" signed in black fountain pen by fourteen members of the 1937 San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League, including Ted Williams (grading "3/4"), Cedric Durst, Jim Chaplin, Herman Pillette, Frank Shellanback, Hal Patchett, Tommy Thompson, George Myatt, Ernie Holman, and George Detore. The printed notation, "1937 San Diego/Base Ball Club," appears on the sweet spot in black ink. All of the signatures, as well as the notation, are very faint, ranging from "1" to "4," averaging "2/3." Ted Williams was in just his second season of professional baseball in 1937, making this easily one of the earliest Ted Williams signed items we have ever seen or handled. Williams, who was just eighteen-years old at the time, batted .291 with a team-high 23 home runs in 138 games with San Diego in 1937. The following season he was assigned to the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association before joining the Red Sox for good in 1939. The ball displays a number of light abrasions, as well as a mounting hole on a side panel. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+.
