1918-1999 Multi- and Dual-Signed Ball Collection - Many Hall of Famers and Unique Pairings (15)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,700
Collection of fifteen multisigned balls featuring a total of seventy-two signatures, including thirty-four different Hall of Fame players. The year or years noted at the start of each listing represent the manufacturing period for that particular ball. This is a very unusual lot of signed baseballs that is part of an extensive signed baseball collection that was assembled over many decades, and that has been consigned and is presented in numerous lots in this auction. A designation of "circa" means that we are unsure of the exact manufacturing period. 1) 1918-1924 official American League (Johnson) ball signed in black fountain pen on individual side panels by Rogers Hornsby (grading "4/5") and Harry Heilmann ("3/4"). There is a blemish on a separate side panel that might represent a third signature, but it is no longer legible. Gd, with moderate toning and a number of abrasions. 2) 1927 official American League (Johnson) ball signed in blue or black fountain pen by eight players, including Hack Wilson, Edd Roush, Billy Evans (sweet spot), Roger Peckinpaugh, Bill Walker, and Jimmy Bloodworth (the other two signatures have faded beyond legibility). Signatures range from "1" to "4," averaging "3." This ball dates precisely to the 1927 season, however, it was either signed at a later date or over a period of time, as Jimmy Bloodworth did not make his major league debut until 1937 (all of the other signers were on major league rosters in 1927). Gd-Vg, with moderate toning and light abrasions. 3) 1958-1962 official National League (Giles) ball signed in black ink on a side panel by Dizzy Dean ("9/10") and Ed Lopat ("7/8"). Vg-Ex. 4) 1937-1960 official International League (Shauhnessy) ball signed in blue fountain pen on a side panel by Kiki Cuyler ("8") and Hans Lobert ("8"), and on the sweet spot by football Hall of Famer Charley Trippi ("7/8"). Vg. 5) Circa 1960s Wilson "Prep League" ball signed in blue or black ink (averaging "7") by Casey Stengel, Warren Giles, William Eckert, and two others (illegible). Ex, with a light coat of shellac. 6) 1958-1962 official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue or red ink (averaging "8") by sixteen players, including Joe Medwick (sweet spot), Ernie Lombardi, Gabby Hartnett, Lon Warneke, Frank McCormick, Bill Lee, Roger "Doc" Cramer, Ival Goodman, Stan Hack, and Bucky Walters. Ex-Mt. 7) 1979 official National League (Feeney) ball signed in blue ink on separate side panels by Walt Alston ("8") and Red Schoendienst ("7"). Vg-Ex with moderate toning and light shellac. 8) 1984-1986 official National League (Feeney) ball signed in blue or black ink (averaging "8/9") by Carl Hubbell (sweet spot in blue marker), Travis Jackson, Vernon Law, Hal Schumacher (on ball label), and one other (illegible). 9) Circa 1980s Spalding "Little League" ball signed by Hank Aaron and Goose Gossage. Aaron has personalized a side panel "To John/Hank Aaron" ("6"), while Gossage has personalized a separate side panel "To John/Best Wishes/Goose Gossage" ("8"). Vg-Ex, with a stray ink mark on the sweet spot. 10) 1987-1988 official National League (Giamatti) ball signed in blue ink (averaging "9") by Hank Aaron (sweet spot), Willie Mays, and Eddie Murray. Ex-Mt. 11) 1989-1990 official National League (White) ball signed in blue ink (averaging "9/1'0") by eight members of the 300 Win Club: Warren Spahn (sweet spot), Early Wynn, Phil Neikro, Nolan Ryan, Gaylord Perry, Tom Seaver, Don Sutton, and Steve Carlton. Ex-Mt. 12) 1990-1992 official American League (Brown) ball signed in blue ink by Luke Appling (sweet spot), Luis Aparicio, Chico Carresquel, and Ozzie Guillen. All of the signatures grade "8/9" with the exception of Guillen ("2/3").
