Ted Williams Signed Jersey with Special "406" Notation

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,160

Mitchell & Ness 1939 Boston Red Sox home replica jersey, signed by Ted Williams on the right breast. In addition to signing the jersey in blue Sharpie (grading "9/10"), Williams has also included his 1941 batting average, "406," directly below his name. Williams, of course, is the last player in Major League history to hit over .400 for a season. This is the first example of a Ted Williams signed jersey we can recall seeing that includes a special "406" notation, making it an especially rare and desirable Ted Williams signed garment. It should be noted that our consignor obtained this signature in person at a signing show during the 1980s, at which time he specially requested that Williams add the "406" below his name. The jersey, size "XL," remains in Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,160
