Circa 1970 Thurman Munson Signed Photo
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,560
This black-and-white photo most likely dates from Thurman Munson’s rookie season and captures the future Yankee captain in a bust-length pose. Munson has flawlessly signed the photo in black marker (grading “10”) along the front base. Munson was never a very accommodating signer; that fact, combined with his untimely death in 1979, has resulted in the extreme rarity of his signature today. This is an outstanding example dating from Munson’s early years with the New York Yankees. The photograph is very likely a team-issued photo supplied to players for signing. The photo (4 x 5 inches) displays five tack holes (three along the base and one in each of the top corners), all of which include a brown-colored outline of the tack head. The tack hole in the upper right corner has torn through, resulting in a small area of paper loss. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,560
