1924 World Series Team-Signed Reunion Ball with President Harry Truman and Six Hall of Famers

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $720

Offered here is a unique multisigned ball that features the signatures of members of both 1924 World Series participants, the Washington Senators and New York Giants, plus President Harry Truman. We believe that this ball originates from a 30th anniversary celebration of the 1924 World Series held in 1954 in Washington, D.C. We have seen one other example of a similar ball at auction, featuring the signatures of Truman and most of the very same players represented here, that originated from the estate of Irish Meusel. At the time of the sale, the auction house determined that it dated from the 30th anniversary of the 1924 World Series because it was the only anniversary date that corresponded to both the manufacturing period of the ball and the lifespan of the signers. (Note: If there was also a 25th Anniversary Reunion in 1949, it is very possible that this ball dates from the 1949 25th anniversary reunion as opposed the 1954 30th anniversary reunion). The blue-ink signatures featured on this red-stitched ball (the manufacturer's stampings are no longer visible) are those of Harry Truman (sweet spot), Bucky Harris (Senators manager, sweet spot), Bill Terry (Giants), Jack Bentley (Giants), Frankie Frisch (Giants), Al Schacht (former Senator; "Clown Prince of Baseball"), Ossie Bluege (Senators), Earl McNeely (Senators), Muddy Ruel (Senators), Sam Rice (Senators), Billy Southworth (Giants), Travis Jackson (Giants), and Irish Meusel (Giants). There are four additional signatures on the ball that have faded beyond legibility. Signatures range from "3" to "6," averaging "4/5." The ball is moderately toned and displays a small abrasion on a side panel, as well as few minor blemishes. In Good to Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $720
