Complete 1969 NY Mets Autographed Topps Card Collection (27) with Hodges and Frisella - PSA/DNA
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,700
Complete collection of all twenty-seven New York Mets cards issued in the 1969 Topps baseball set (in which the player pictured is identified by Topps as a member of the New York Mets), each autographed on the front by the respective player or players represented. Ideally, all of the cards have been encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with each signature certified as "Authentic" (neither the signatures nor the cards were numerically graded by the company). The highlight of this collection is, of course, the Gil Hodges autographed card. Hodges died in 1972, making his signature the rarest among all team members. Also included is a card signed by Dan Frisella, who died in 1977. In addition to Hodges and Frisella, this collection includes cards signed by four additional deceased players: Cardwell, Koonce, Agee, and McGraw. This is an "Amazing" (no pun intended) 1969 New York Mets autograph collection and one that took our consignor many years to assemble. We have never seen another complete set like this and, given the challenges in acquiring many of these signatures today (three others are deceased and many are hard to find), we probably never will. Unless otherwise noted, all of the signatures (scripted in a variety of inks) grade "9" or "10." The collection is comprised of the following: #31 (1969 Mets Rookie Stars) Gentry and Otis (signed by both), 55 Grote, 72 Taylor, 90 Koosman, 112 Martin, 127 Collins, 144 Hendley, 193 Cardwell (deceased), 221 Shamsky, 245 Charles (grading "7"), 269 Weis, 303 Koonce (deceased), 321 McAndrew, 343 Frisella (deceased), 364 Agee (deceased), 381 Kranepool, 402 Boswell, (grading "6/7"), 434 Koosman (grading "7/8"), 456 Harrelson, 480 Seaver, 512 Jones, 533 Ryan, 564 Hodges (deceased; grading "7"), 585 Swoboda, 601 McGraw (deceased), 624 (NL 1969 Rookie Stars) signed by Dyer, and 649 Jackson. Cards range from Vg to Ex, averaging Vg-Ex. Total: 27 signed cards. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,700
