1961-1962 National Association of Professional Baseball Players of Cuba Document Signed by Minnie Minoso (as President)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $360
Two-page typed document, on "Asociacion Nacional de Peloreros Profesionales de Cuba" letterhead, signed in blue ink by "Orestes Minoso" (grading "9") as president, and "Dr. Osmel Francis" ("9", as secretary). The document, which is entirely in Spanish, appears to be the Association's annual report for the 1961-1962 season in that it lists the names of the officers, outlines the organization's rules and goals, mentions a raise in dues, and lists the total amount of money held by the Association. Each page features the Association's blue stamp, as well as a preprinted listing of all of the Association's officers along the top left border, including Minoso as president, Willy Miranda as vice president, and Martin Dihigo as a member of the board. The Asociacion Nacional de Peloreros Profesionales de Cuba was the governing body of professional baseball in Cuba during the 1950s and early 1960s. In March 1961 Castro abolished professional baseball in Cuba. As a result, many of the players became exiles in the United States or in other Latin American countries. The document is accompanied by two 8 x 10-inch black-and-white photos picturing the officers of the Association, including Minoso, socializing together at the famous Bacardi bar in Cuba (each Ex-Mt). Each page of the document (8.5 x 13 inches) displays three horizontal fold lines, as well as a number of small edge tears and chips. In Very Good condition overall. Total: 3 items (document and 2 photos). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $360
