1953 Ty Cobb Signed Check - PSA/DNA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $960
Ty Cobb personal check, dated January 29, 1953, signed in green ink by “Tyrus R. Cobb.” Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the signature graded "NM-MT 8." The check, drawn on the First National Bank of Nevada, features Ty Cobb’s preprinted name along the left front border and has been made out to “Isabell Coffis” in the amount of $19.50. Endorsed by Coffis on the reverse. Although there are many Cobb checks (he saved everything and his family made literally hundreds of checks available after his passing, in exchange for a donation to the charitable Cobb Educational Foundation), they have always been considered a classic, especially a high-grade encapsulated gem such as this example. The check (8 x 3 inches) displays standard bank cancellation stamps and perforations, a few minor creases, and two vertical folds (one of which runs through the Cobb signature). In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $960
