1948 American League All-Star Team-Signed Ball with DiMaggio and Williams

Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-nine members of the 1948 American League All-Star team: Bauman (trainer), Berra, Boudreau, Coleman, Corriden (coach), DiMaggio (sweet spot), Dobson, Dressen (coach), Evers, Gordon, Harris (Mgr.), Haynes (clubhouse), Henrich, Kell, Keltner, Lemon, Masterson, McQuinn, Mullin, Newhouser (Newhouser’s signature appears atop that of Bob Bauman’s), Page, Raschi, Rosar, Schulte (coach),Stephens, Tebbets (twice), Vernon, T. Williams, and Zarilla. The signatures range from "8" to "10," averaging "9," with the exception of DiMaggio (heavy bleeding). Light overall toning with moderate fading to the manufacturer’s stampings. The tiny blue-ink letters and/or numbers "P5-2L" and "W.Z." (meaning unknown) appear, respectively, on the ball label and sweet spot. The blue-ink notation "48 All Stars" appears on the sweet spot. The ball displays very light overall toning and minor fading to the manufacturer's labels. In Excellent to Mint condition. This ball originates from the personal collection of Bob Bauman, who was a longtime Major League trainer with both the St. Louis Browns (1937-1953) and St. Louis Cardinals (1954-1988). The ball, along with eighty-three other team balls from Bauman's collection, was originally consigned by the Bauman family to REA's May 2010 auction, where it was offered as part of a larger lot.
