1948 Ty Cobb Signed Check
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,080
Ty Cobb personal check, dated January 15, 1948, signed in green ink (grading "10") by “Tyrus R. Cobb.” The check, drawn on the First National Bank of Nevada, features Ty Cobb’s preprinted name along the left front border and has been made out to “Mr. Joe Sullivan” in the amount of $21.50. Endorsed by Sullivan on the reverse. Although there are many Cobb checks (he saved everything and his family made literally hundreds of checks available after his passing, in exchange for a donation to the charitable Cobb Educational Foundation), they have always been considered a classic by collectors. The check (8 x 3 inches) displays standard bank cancellation stamps and perforations, a light vertical center fold, and a spindle hole near the left border. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,080
