1950 Jackie Robinson Signed Book - Jackie Robinson by Bill Roeder
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,440
Hardcover first edition of Jackie Robinson by Bill Roeder, inscribed in blue ink by Jackie Robinson on the front flyleaf: "To Eve, with best wishes and thanks for your cooperation. Sincerely Jackie Robinson." Both the signature and inscription are boldly scripted and grade "10." Published in 1950 by A. S. Barnes and Company, New York. Complete with original dust jacket. This book was part of the company's "Most Valuable Player Series," which included new biographies each year for the Most Valuable Player award recipients in both the National and American leagues. Robinson was the 1949 National League MVP, which earned him this volume the following spring. The dust jacket displays a portrait illustration of Robinson as a member of the Dodgers and the 183-page book includes numerous illustrations. This is the first signed example of this book that we have ever offered and over the years we have seen just a few others. It is a particularly rare Jackie Robinson signed book and this is a particularly outstanding example. In March 1951, the recipient of this book, Eve, presented it as a gift to a friend of hers, as noted by her lengthy inscription on the page following Robinson's signature. The book is in Excellent to Mint condition overall, while the dust jacket is in Good condition, with numerous edge tears. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,440
